2026 MPLS Ski Club Summer Training

We are excited to work with you this summer in reaching your goals. Be they becoming comfortable on rollerskis and improving your fitness and strength to making your High School Varsity team, making All-Conference, All-Section, All-State or competing at the highest level regionally, nationally and internationally.  Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning technique and strength sessions help your body to become more stable and efficient as a skier.  Battle Creek Friday mornings is highly recommended for becoming fit, strong and agile.  Everyone all abilities should be doing this session to see the improvements they want for next winter.  Ideally a beginner and intermediate skier is doing 3 sessions per week (for example Tues,Thurs am and Fri).  This will get you moving well in classic, skate and strength and fitness.  Advanced skiers who are proficient on roller skis and have goals of competing at State, Regionally, Nationally will see great gains by participating in Afton practices (Mon pm, Wed pm, Sat am) as well as Friday am Battle Creek, at least one Mon, Tues, Wed or Thurs am technique and one Tues or Thurs pm strength practice.  If your plan is to participate in most of our practices year round and want an individualized training plan and one on one support along with competing in Junior Qualifiers and working towards making a spring trip you should take a look at the Comp Team year round coaching and training plan.  Don't hesitate to reach out if you have questions.

  • 6:00 - 8:15 pm Afton Town Square Rollerskiing  Intervals/Speed Stations*

Tuesdays:

  • 7:30 - 9:30 am Wabun Park Classic Technique/Distance Rollerskiing
  • 7:30 - 9:30 am Baker Regional Park Classic Technique/Distance Rollerskiing
  • 7:30 - 9:30 am Wildwood Elementary Classic Technique/Distance School Rollerskiing
  • 4:00-5:00 Hopkins HS Strength Workout
  • 6:00 - 8:00 pm Bush Lake Beach Hyland Bloomington Skate + Classic Technique/Distance Rollerskiing
  • 6:00 - 7:00 pm Highland Park HS Strength Workout

Wednesdays: 

  • 7:30 - 9:30 am Elm Creek Skate Technique/Distance Rollerskiing

Thursdays:

  • 6:00 - 8:00 pm Bush Lake Beach Hyland Bloomington Classic/skate Technique/Distance Rollerskiing
  • 6:00 - 7:00 pm Highland Park HS Strength Workout or choose Hopkins HS Strength Workout

Fridays:

  • 7:30 - 9:30 am Battle Creek: Moosehoofing, Bounding, Ski-walking, Running (Highly recommended session for improving Classic skiing technique and power and endurance strength). All on grassy trail that are softer and easier on the legs. We will also have some roller ski agility at the end of these sessions.

Saturdays:

  • 7:30 - 10:00 am Afton: Over-Distance Rollerskiing.  We like the hills here for developing endurance strength.  We have been skiing here for over 40 years.

*Afton practices are recommended for athletes with goals of participating in Junior National Qualifiers and or competing at the State Meet.  We ask that you contact the coaches at minneapolisskiclubnordic@gmail.com to confirm you have the rollerskiing and training background to participate in these practices.

It's summertime! Your family goes on vacations, there are events, camps, and extracurriculars. Minneapolis Ski Club has a flexible policy for making up practices missed this summer. If you miss a practice, make it up when you can this includes at a different location or time if that is easier for your family.
